SCISSOR N3

The first instrument designed specifically to assess the risk and performance of subcutaneously administered drugs including biologics, peptides and small molecules. It generates the same rank orders of bioavailability observed in humans.

Overview

While there is a strong ethical desire to reduce in vivo testing, scientists also report extremely poor correlation between animal models and human outcomes for subcutaneously administered drugs. Other issues with current testing protocols include the high cost of in vivo work and the site-to-site and patient-to-patient variability which affect the confidence in the data being able to accurately predict the bioavailability of biopharmaceuticals in humans.

SCISSOR N3 changes all that by providing a way to successfully assess the performance and risk of biologics, peptides and small molecules in vitro.

SCISSOR N3 is the first instrument designed to simulate the stress conditions and environmental transitions that a biopharmaceutical, peptide or small molecule drug experiences when injected into a subcutaneous environment. These include chemical stresses - such as buffer composition, pH change and loss of excipients - and physical stresses - such as temperature and pressure changes. With that considered, there are also non-specific interactions with extracellular matrix components and aggregation events to contend with upon injection. Pion SCISSOR is the only available instrument of its kind to consider these factors when testing the performance of a subcutaneous drug in vitro.

Applications

Pion’s SCISSOR N3 is the first instrument of its type to offer:

✓ Determine rank order of different formations

✓ Monitoring of drug stability upon injection

✓ Indication of precipitation/ aggregation events occurring In vivo

✓ Generation of release profiles and % bioavailability through offline analysis

✓ Optional automated sample collection

✓ Accurate modelling of the behavior subcutaneously administered pharmaceutical drugs

Features

Correlation
SCISSOR N3’s sophisticated model of the subcutaneous space features an artificial extracellular matrix which when combined with the simulated interstitial fluid in the system, creates a perfect platform to correlate with the active environment of the human body.

Simplicity
Experiments are easy to execute thanks to SCISSOR N3’s uncomplicated design. Mining data is simple too, thanks to the intuitive software and Excel based data reports. Results can be easily manipulated and interpreted to enable meaningful data comparison.
